Salem Little League Softball and Baseball

Updated: Wednesday, May13 10pm.  As of Wednesday, March 11 at noon, all divisions were set to Wait List Only for registration. League leadership met that evening to finalize the number of teams for the season.  Player evaluations were held that week, and teams were chosen for competitive levels.

As of early April - Rookie Tee Ball/ aka Intro to tee ball for 4 year olds is full and is wait list only.  All Softball divisions are full and have been practicing for a couple weeks.  Baseball ages 11-12 is full and have been practicing for a few weeks.

As of May 13, there are only 2 tee ball openings (age 5 and 6).  Siblings who sign up late will be on 2 different teams Tee BAll to keep rosters at the same amount of players. There are also 8 Coach Pitch/Farm Baseball openings.

Registration will close completely on May 15 at 11:59 PM.

Be sure to add your child to the wait list if they are interested in playing—this is the only way we will know they want a spot. Joining the wait list is free.

We will do everything possible to place waitlisted players, but placement cannot be guaranteed, and in late April into May the chances are remote . Registration has been open since October 1, giving families over 225 days to secure spots.

If you have questions regarding registration, please contact our League Player Agent/Registrar,  Ed Colbert, at [email protected]

Volunteers have been the lifeblood of Little League since its inception, and millions of  children each year rely on the selfless dedication of adult volunteers to donate their time and talents to bring the Little League experience to their hometown.

Simply put- we don't have enough volunteers- causing the player experience to suffer and the league to pay outside vendors for necessary services, which in turn causes participation fees to increase.  Please consider stepping up and signing up to volunteer while you register your child.  We NEED YOU.

It’s important to remember that all Little League volunteer positions are  annual positions, and need to be reapproved, pending a background check, each year.

PLEASE NOTE- The registration fees shown in the Program Listing are the full price, before any Early registration discounts.  Discounts appear at final check out.

2026 Summer Jimmy Fund

Jimmy Fund Little League presented by Franklin Sports provides more than 5,000 Little League baseball and softball players throughout New England the chance to continue playing after their regular season ends while fundraising for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Since 1987, the hard work and winning spirit of the coaches, parents, and, most importantly, the players, have raised more than $5 million for the Jimmy Fund.

Salem participated in Jimmy Fund for the first year in quite some time in 2021. Combined, the teams raised $10,000 for the Jimmy Fund, our 10-year-old team was a top fundraising team and got tickets to the Sox game, with 2 of our players getting to go on the hallowed ground of Fenway before the game for recognition. This is made to be a FUN baseball season, to enhance your skills and play some ball. Wins and losses do not matter. Multiple teams won prizes in 2022 as well, with the 12 year old team going to catch a Red Sox game at Fenway!

Team Structure:
We're aiming to form teams for all 3 divisions that Jimmy Fund Baseball offers: 12-year-olds, 11-year-olds. and 10-year-olds.
Depending on the number of players and available coaches, we may have multiple teams per age group, or not have an age group at all. Teams will be grouped as closely by age as possible—ideally by a single year. If necessary, we’ll combine ages (e.g., 11s with 12s), but never more than a two-year age span. If we don't have enough 10s, 9-year-olds will play with 10s. Last year we have a 12-year-old team (11s and 12s) and a 10-year-old team.

League Info:
Player-pitch divisions only — open to anyone who played Minors or Majors in Spring 2026, or new players age 9+ (Little League age).
No Coach Pitch or Farm divisions.
All skill levels are welcome — this is not an All-Star tournament.
Games begin after July 4 and end before youth football starts.
Each team plays 10 games (5 home, 5 away). Major Little League Baseball rules apply, including the dropped third strike rule, for 12u.
Jimmy Fund Championship: This Jimmy Fund League is a chance to continue the season for those who want to, and is a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund. Typically, since the pandemic, there has not been a championship/playoff. If that does come back, the top 2 teams in each division who raise the most money for the Jimmy Fund may compete in a one-game championship — this is not based on win/loss record. That means a team could go 0–10 and still make the championship if they raise the most money.

Game Days by Age (Based on 2025 Schedule):
10s – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays; 11s – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays; 12s – Slotted in around the others
Roster Guidelines: Players will not be moved down to a lower age division. Playing "up" only occurs if headcount demands it (e.g., 10s moving to 11s if numbers are uneven). Larger rosters (14–15 players) to accommodate summer vacations.

Who We’ll Be Playing:
Salem teams will compete against other District 16 leagues (Peabody, Lynnfield, Saugus, Swampscott, Nahant) and possibly District 12 (Medford, Malden, Everett, Somerville, East Boston). Away games may be in any of those towns.

Cost Breakdown (Per Team):
$150 team entry fee, $350 umpire fees (split between two teams per game), $200 for baseballs (30 total), $400 for team shirts and hats, Total: $1,015 – $1,215 per team
For a 12-player team, this comes out to about $92 per player, plus a $3 Sports Connect transaction fee. Any extra funds after bills are paid will go directly to the Jimmy Fund and be distributed evenly across all teams' fundraising efforts.

Important Dates & Registration:
Because we’re coordinating with multiple leagues, we have a very short window to finalize team entries. ✅ Registration Deadline: extended until full

We Need Coaches & Managers! If you're interested in helping coach or manage a team, we need volunteers ASAP to make this season happen.

2026 Tee Ball

Introduction to Tee Ball/Rookie League is full and is not accepting any additional registrations (this level is for 4 year olds).

This Tee Ball Program (Not Intro to Tee Ball/Rookie league) is for all returning 5-year-olds (Who played as a 4-year-old) and 6-year-olds who choose to remain in Tee Ball and not move up to Coach Pitch baseball. Our Tee Ball program is designed to teach the basic foundational skills used in the games of baseball and softball. Skills taught will be hitting, throwing, catching, and running bases, all while emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and having fun over competition. This one-hour program is great for those kids who are ready for a bit more structure while still having FUN!

6-year-olds can move up to the Farm/Coach Pitch division, but only after having played at least one year of tee ball previously.
While LL allows new 7-year-olds to play tee ball, Salem LL decides to have all 7-year-olds in the Farm—Coach Pitch division unless an exception is granted.

2026 Softball

All 7-year-olds will be automatically assigned to the Coach Pitch/Farm division. In the Coach pitch division, the season continuously touts the importance of team-building and chemistry, while focusing on fundamentals. The Coach pitch division of Little League is a fun activity that has as its prime objective nurturing and growing well-rounded and productive people with softball fundamentals, not developing elite ballplayers.

All 8-11-year-olds will be evaluated for placement.
For the most part:
  • 8-year-olds: highly skilled 8s will be placed in the minors based on the numbers needed. All others will be placed in Farm/Coach Pitch division. The registration fee for 8 year old's is the same regardless of placement.
  • 9-year-olds: It is the expectation that there will be no 9s in Farm, unless there is a safety reason for it or if a new player can really use time in Farm/Coach pitch. The vast majority of 9-year-olds will be placed in the Minors.
  • 10-year-olds: Highly skilled 10-year-olds may be drafted into the majors by a major league manager. Should a 10-year-old not be drafted, they will be placed in the minors.
  • 11-year-olds: 95% of 11-year-olds will be drafted into the majors by a major league manager. Only if an 11-year-old has low skill levels where safety is an issue will they be placed in the minors. 11-year-olds who sign up too late to be drafted will be placed in the minors.

12-year-olds: All 12-year-olds will be evaluated and drafted to the major league division, or in rare cases, the Junior/Senior division, if they sign up and attend evaluations before teams are selected. 12-year-olds who are not signed up in time to be drafted (mid-March) will not be able to participate for the season unless a player is out for the season, due to resignation, illness, or injury.

The above is how it was set up from 10/1 to 2/26, 148 days. New Update as of 3/2/2026 9:30 PM. 11 and 12 year old softball is full, so wait list is on. Age 8-10 softball has 3 spots- register for the evaluation division. They will be evaluated for Minors or Farm Softball. Farm Softball has room.
13-16 year olds - will be placed in Junior/Senior Softball. As of 2/26/26 at 9:30 PM there is only 3 spots remaining.
